Item 1: Damn Obvious

The most obvious headline ever:

Uri Geller accused of TV trickery

A hit Israeli TV show starring celebrity spoon-bender Uri Geller has come under fire from magicians for being full of “tricks and stunts”.

The phrase, “well duh,” comes to mind. Geller has already been eviscerated by smarter people than I and it makes me wonder how people still get suckered in by him and his ilk. The last link there goes to an Anderson Cooper transcript, scroll down to the bit about Sylvia Browne. Browne, a famous “psychic” and frequent guest on shows like Montel and Larry King Live, told the parents of Shawn Hornbeck that their kid was dead. She was damn wrong.
Item 2: Damn Cool:

If President Bush had one lasting positive legacy, I hope it is his Vision for Space Exploration. Space nut Paul Spudis, and I mean that in a good way, offers a reason as to why we should go to the moon:

In short, we are going to the Moon for one clear and understandable reason—to be able to do everything else that we want to do in space. The Moon is our school, laboratory, and foundry. The Vision begins by building a highway through the heart of cislunar space, creating a transportation infrastructure for diverse users: scientists, miners, sellers and buyers, and ultimately, settlers.

OK, that’s only two items, but I have a job, man.

UPDATE: Item 3: A Damn Spooky Coincidence.

According to the Independent, today is Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year. By coincidence (or Pyschology!) , today I have been feeling uncharacteristically depressed. (via Rand Simberg.)

So welcome to “Blue Monday” – Monday, 22 January – officially designated by a psychologist as the most depressing day of the year. It has been singled out by Dr Cliff Arnall, psychologist and former tutor at Cardiff University, who has used mathematical equations to reach his verdict.

He worked out that people are most likely to get the blues in the final full week of January because of the combination of bad weather, Christmas debts and broken New Year resolutions

OK, I’ve paid my bills and haven’t broken any resolutions. But the weather is crummy today — and I didn’t get to make it to the gym this morning, which is probably another contributing factor. Also too, was reading the story of little Sam Jones (if you happen to be reading this today, go to Subterranean Press and buy a book to support his family). It doesn’t help that, after spending all weekend with Julia, I miss her on Mondays — despite the fact that the little monster doesn’t let me sleep. (I’m sure lack of sleep is yet another contributing factor.)

Reading this made me feel better, a little. Now I’m off to listen to New Order.
